Hi, I have recently come into posession of couple of bsa bantoms (aswell as 2 velocette venoms) from my grandfather. Theyve been sitting in a shed since the early 70s. My father hasnt got the time, but ive always been into old motorbikes (only 26). Your tips sound very useful. Where would you suggest i start! I was maybe thinking of putting all the good bits from the 2 into one complete bike. Would it be sensible to see whether the actual engine starts? any help would be much appreciated. thanks

Hello again, i;ve almost finished my project and have just received replacement clutch plates, the problem is that after compressing them to insert the circlip the clutch has no movement ie the springs are so tightly compressed there is no room for movement. ive checked and rechecked but dont understand whats wrong, any ideas?

can you please send wiring diagram for fitting a solid state rectifier to a bsa bantam D3 plunger with battery. only in your picture I am unable to see the wiring because it is hidden behind the tool box frame many thanks

hi,
I can't seem to find the correct wiring diagram for my BSA Bantam D3 plunger and wondered if you could help.

It has a wico pacy type 55 alternator fitted with four terminals. all of the bikes wiring has been removed and so I must try and figure out what connects to what. The bike has a battery fitted, it has a bridge rectifier and separate HT coil.

I have figured that the wires connected to terminals 1 and 4 go to the rectifier and that terminal 2 is the earth (positive earth). However I cannot figure what wire connects to terminal 3 or where it goes. On all diagrams that I have, this terminal connects to the ignition switch. But this bike doesn't have one. But if it did have one, which wire would the terminal 3 cable connect to when the switch is operated? Where does it go after the switch?

The live battery wire -6V DC (positive earth) also appears to go to the ignition switch, but does it then connect to the ignition circuit or just to the lighting?

I have spent a whole day on the internet trying to find these answers and you seem to be the only ones that I have found that may have a clue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am having trouble with my front forks... I dont suppose you have some pictures of yours being put together or any dimensions for stanchion and spring length? Do the spings need to be compressed and how?

Excellent site, thank you. With regard to the problem of piston seizure it is not a good pratice to use a synthetic based self mixing oil for petrol /oil lubrication during the running in period. Use only a mineral based 2 stroke oil of the type used in standard m/cycle engines and lawn mowers and you will avoid a lot of seizure problems.
